Geographers at Padiham Green explore places, investigate our world and ask questions about people, places and the environment.
At Padiham Green, we want children to develop a curiosity and fascination about the world and an understanding of their place within it.
Our geography curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and has been carefully designed for the children of Padiham Green. Children develop secure geographical knowledge and skills as they learn about places, people and environments, alongside the physical and human processes that shape our world.
Our local area is at the heart of our geography curriculum. Children have regular opportunities to undertake fieldwork and explore the environment around Padiham, developing their understanding of their own locality before making connections with contrasting places across the UK and the wider world.
As children move through school, they learn to think and work as geographers. They ask geographical questions, observe and collect information, use maps and atlases, undertake fieldwork, interpret geographical information and use evidence to explain what they discover. They learn to identify patterns, make comparisons and explore the connections between people, places and environments.
Through their geography learning, children develop an understanding of the diversity of our world and the ways in which people and the environment are interconnected. We encourage children to consider different places and communities with curiosity, respect and understanding.
Ultimately, we want our children to leave Padiham Green with a strong sense of place, an understanding of the world around them and the curiosity and geographical skills to continue exploring it.
