Scientists at Padiham Green explore, investigate and ask questions to understand the world around them.
At Padiham Green, we want children to be curious about the world around them and develop the scientific knowledge and skills they need to understand, question and explore it.
Our science curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and is carefully sequenced so that children build their scientific knowledge and understanding as they move through school. Children learn about living things, materials, physical processes and the world around them, making connections with their prior learning and applying what they know in new contexts.
Alongside developing scientific knowledge, children learn to think and work as scientists. They ask questions, make predictions, observe closely, carry out practical investigations, take measurements, record and present their findings, identify patterns and use evidence to draw conclusions.
We believe children should experience science for themselves. Practical investigation and enquiry are an important part of our curriculum, giving children opportunities to explore, test ideas and discover answers while learning how scientific evidence can be used to explain the world around us.
Our science curriculum also encourages children to consider the relationship between science, the environment and sustainability. Through learning inside and outside the classroom, children explore the impact people can have on the natural world and consider how scientific knowledge can help us make informed choices about our environment.
We also want children to understand that science is continually developing. Through learning about scientists and scientific discoveries, children see how scientific ideas have changed over time and recognise the important role science plays in everyday life and our future.
Ultimately, we want our children to leave Padiham Green with secure scientific knowledge, the confidence to investigate and question, and a lasting curiosity about the world around them.
