At Padiham Green, we want children to become creative, curious and confident designers who understand that products are designed and made for a purpose.
Our Design & Technology curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum and is carefully planned to develop children’s knowledge and practical skills as they progress through school. Children learn about structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food, applying their learning to purposeful design and make projects.
As children move through school, they learn to think and work as designers. They investigate existing products, consider the needs of a user, develop and communicate their ideas, select appropriate tools and materials, make purposeful products and evaluate how successfully their designs meet their intended purpose.
Design & Technology provides meaningful opportunities for children to draw upon and apply knowledge from across the curriculum, including mathematics, science, computing and art. Children learn that designing involves creativity alongside technical knowledge, careful decision-making and practical skills.
Through evaluating existing products and their own work, children learn to test, reflect and improve, understanding that the design process often involves adapting ideas and finding solutions when things do not work as expected.
Ultimately, we want our children to leave Padiham Green with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to design, make and evaluate purposeful products, and an understanding of how design and technology help to shape the world around them.
