Our Governors

Mrs. L. Tyrer, Headteacher.

My name is Lisa Tyrer and I am the Headteacher at Padiham Green.  I started here in 2019 and feel very fortunate to be working in such an amazing school with a group of staff that put the education and wellbeing of the children at the centre of everything they do.  The children at Padiham Green constantly amaze me with their excellent manners, positive attitude to learning and they remind me every day why I became a teacher.

I have been teaching since 2002.  Prior to working at Padiham Green I have taught at two other Lancashire schools and was the SENCO in both.  As a Headteacher I am able to devote my time to developing teaching and learning across school as well as supporting children and their families in school with additional needs ensuring that everyone is given the best possible chance to reach their full potential.

In addition to being a teacher, I am a proud mum of two teenage girls both of who keep me very busy.  As a family we enjoy spending our time walking in the Lake District, cooking delicious food together and watching Coronation Street.

Rev Canon Mark Jones

Padiham Green Church of England School was founded by the Parish of St Leonard’s Padiham at the
end of the 19th Century.  The aim of the School has always been “to serve its community by providing
an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an
understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the
experience it offers to all its pupils.” (Padiham Green Instrument of Government)
The links between School and Parish remain strong to this day.  The children regularly visit their
Parish Church and the congregation is very supportive of Mr Dixon and his excellent School – not least
through their prayers.  As well as serving as governors the parish clergy regularly lead collective
worship in School.

Mrs. Paula Markham

I am the mum of 2 boys who have attended Padiham Green. Benjamin is now 14 and studying at Burnley High School, and Oliver is in Year 6, and I have been a Parent Governor since 2010.  I nominated myself as a Governor as I believe that parent governors have a special role.  I always try to assess issues and decisions from the point of view of a parent/carer as I feel that different perspectives should always be considered and a rounded view increases the likelihood to make improvements for the school, its staff and most importantly the children.  I enjoy being part of the school’s governing body and working in partnership with Mr Dixon and leadership team to raise standards and improve outcomes for all of the children at Padiham Green.  In recent years I have undertaken roles as sport and science governor to provide a supporting role in these areas, additionally, I also sit on the Curriculum Committee & Pay Appeals Committee.

I have had an 18 year career for the NHS and I am current Head of Informatics for a number of Greater Manchester Hospitals.

Mrs. Alison Shearer

I have been working with Early Years children for a long time. I keep up to date with new methods of teaching & learning enhancements and enjoy carrying them out with the children in my setting. I feel strongly about learning in a fun and exciting way and I feel Padiham Green also achieves this. All my girls have either attended Padiham Green or at still at Padiham Green. My niece is also part of the Padiham Green family and previously my maternal family have also been Padiham Green attendees so I know this is a really warm, caring and welcoming school which I hope in the future my children will continue to support.
I am also a keen fundraiser for charities. I have been on the Burnley Mayoress’ Committee since my parents were the Mayor & Mayoress of Burnley in 2012. We have raised thousands of pounds by organising a large number of events in and around Padiham & Burnley which has helped local & national charities therefore helping the community.

Mr. Howard Hudson

My name is Howard Leigh Hudson; I was born in Padiham in 1960 and have lived here all my life. I went to St. Leonard’s school in Padiham then Gawthorpe Secondary School.
I have been married to my wife Patricia for 36 years and have two grown up children, both now in their 30s. I have lived in several areas of town and now live on River Drive.
I work at Harrison Saw & Tool Limited in Haslingden, Rossendale, where I manage a specialist engineering department servicing and supplying cutting tools mainly for the steel industry. This department was set up by myself when I joined the company over twenty-five years ago.
I have been a Town Councillor, serving on Padiham Town Council for over ten years (this is a non political council) and we are all working together to progress the town and surroundings, I held the position of Town Mayor in 2014-2015 and during the year raised almost £6000 for the Community Fund, benefiting many groups throughout Padiham and Hapton.
In the same year I also raised a further £800 for The Christie Hospital, by leaping out of an aeroplane and Skydiving from 15000 ft.
I have always enjoyed playing an active role in all our community events, such as wading around in the River Calder catching the winning ducks at our annual duck race.
I help keep the River Bank throughout the Town Centre cut back and clear of undergrowth during the summer, and do also help cut back the undergrowth in many other areas of town ( along with other councillors).
Like many others I enjoy cycling and wish to see more safe cycling paths in the area. I see the encouragement of cycling and the provision of the necessary infrastructure as a positive step forward for our community; the Greenway is a prime example of this.
During my time as a Padiham Town Councillor I have observed the very important role that our schools play in shaping the local community of Padiham and I am delighted to be on the governing body of Padiham Green School and to have the opportunity to play my part in this role.

Mrs M Barber (1).JPG

Mrs. Melissa Barber

I joined Padiham Green as a Parent Governor and as a parent in 2018. I am committed and excited to help the School maintain its vision and direction, by providing a structure that helps each pupil achieve their own successes.

I am also a firm believer that children should be treated as individuals and everybody should be afforded the opportunity to achieve a great education. I believe this should always be considered when assessing any requirement for future change and I am dedicated to ensuring that parents/carers views are represented as part of this process.

Although I was relatively new to school life at my appointment, I have since joined school as the school's Bursar/Office Manager and my previous experience as a Management Consultant within the Building Society sector and roles in Financial Control, provided me with the professional skills required to take on the challenges that may face me as a Parent Governor and I feel fortunate enough to be part of what really does feel like a community here at Padiham Green.

As well as a wife and mum to my son Cooper, I am an expert slime maker (according to Cooper), I also love nothing more than baking something sweet and although I may not be ready for 'bake off' just yet, I welcome everybody to come and sample one of my many bakes at one of our 'Friends of Padiham Green' meetings.
